CHOOSE THE RECORD

Choose what the log is meant to improve.

A reading log can help you protect a quiet habit, compare study allocations or remember where you stopped. Choose one main purpose. Timing every paragraph and tracking every page can create enough work to discourage the reading itself.

For a personal habit, start with duration and a book title. For study, add a short outcome such as “summarized chapter three.” Do not compare a dense technical chapter with an easy novel using pages per hour alone. Different kinds of reading require different attention, and speed is not the same as understanding.

SMALL WORKFLOW

Use a repeatable start and finish.

  1. Choose the text before starting the timer.
  2. Start one reading activity and put the phone aside.
  3. Stop when you stop reading, including a switch to unrelated browsing.
  4. Add a short restart note if you need one.

An open timer suits a chapter whose length is uncertain. A short countdown suits a session you are reluctant to begin. If you listen to an audiobook while traveling, decide whether your audit treats that as reading or travel; counting the same minutes in two exclusive categories distorts a whole-day total.

REVIEW A WEEK

Look for a routine you can repeat.

Suppose you record 15, 20, 10 and 25 minutes across four days. The total is 70 minutes. That can be a useful week even if you read on fewer than seven days. Ask which location and time made the session easy to begin.

Try one change the following week: leave the book beside a chair, choose the next chapter in advance, or reserve a short slot before another established activity. A duration target is a planning aid. It should not make you continue when tired just to preserve a number.

CHRONO FIT

Use Chrono for time, not a book database.

Chrono provides activities, notes, tags and timer history, so it can hold a simple reading-time record alongside work or study. The same core workflow works offline for a paper book or a locally available ebook.

Chrono is not presented here as an ebook reader, book scanner or automatic page counter. If your priority is managing editions, loans and a large book catalog, use a dedicated reading organizer. Choose Chrono when the question is how much time you deliberately set aside and when those sessions happen.

05 · QUICK ANSWERS

Track Reading Time on Android, briefly.

Can I track a paper book with an Android timer?

Yes. Start the timer on your phone, put it aside and stop it when you finish reading. No digital copy of the book is required.

Does Chrono count pages automatically?

No automatic page-counting feature is assumed here. The workflow tracks time and uses optional notes for your own context.
