PREPARE ENTRIES

Clean the period before you export it.

Choose one reporting period and one purpose: a weekly review, a project archive or a client summary. Correct forgotten overnight timers, add missing activity labels and separate overlapping entries. An export preserves errors just as reliably as accurate records.

Chrono supports CSV export of tracked entries. Use the export controls available in your installed version, then save the result to a destination you can find again. Keep a copy before editing it. The example below is a teaching layout, not a promise that every Chrono version uses these exact column names or time units.

EXAMPLE

Inspect the unit before doing arithmetic.

Imagine a spreadsheet with columns for date, activity and minutes. Three sessions contain 50, 35 and 75 minutes. Their total is 160 minutes, or 2 hours 40 minutes. Decimal hours are 160 ÷ 60 = 2.6667, not 2.40.

Example CSV layout
Date,Activity,Minutes
2026-10-05,Project A,50
2026-10-05,Project A,35
2026-10-06,Project B,75

If those minutes occupy C2:C4, =SUM(C2:C4)/60 returns decimal hours. If your actual export uses seconds, divide by 3600 instead. If it uses spreadsheet time values, use the spreadsheet's elapsed-duration formatting. Do not mix text such as “50 min” with numeric values and expect an ordinary sum to work.

CHECK IMPORT

Check five things after opening the file.

  1. Confirm the separator produced distinct columns. Use the import dialog if everything lands in one cell.
  2. Check dates against one known session, especially when day and month could be reversed.
  3. Confirm that durations are numbers or understood time values rather than text.
  4. Compare the total with the same period in the app.
  5. Check for duplicates before combining overlapping weekly and monthly exports.

Use a working copy for filters, pivots and calculations. Keep client-sensitive notes out of any version you share. A CSV contains the exported fields; it is not automatically a complete restorable backup of the app.

KEEP A ROUTINE

Make export part of finishing the week.

Name exports by period, for example time-2026-10-05-to-2026-10-11.csv, and store them where your normal backup can include them. Open a sample occasionally. A file you cannot interpret is a weak archive, even when it exists in several places.

Chrono fits this workflow when you want Android tracking with local entries and a portable spreadsheet output. If you need shared approval, payroll rules or automatic synchronization across a team, choose a system built for those requirements. The spreadsheet example is for reviewing time; it does not decide billing terms for you.

05 · QUICK ANSWERS

Export Time Tracking to CSV on Android, briefly.

Is 2 hours 40 minutes the same as 2.40 hours?

No. Forty minutes is two-thirds of an hour, so the decimal total is approximately 2.6667 hours.

Is CSV export a complete app backup?

Not necessarily. It preserves the exported records, but may not include settings or support reimporting into the app.
