DEFINE USEFUL
Start from the recording you actually need to transcribe.
A model that works well on clear solo speech may behave differently on a distant lecture or overlapping conversation. Pick a representative sample with the language, recording conditions and terminology you usually encounter.
Include a passage you can verify by listening. Write a small reference transcript yourself so you can compare outputs with the audio rather than comparing one automatic result with another. Keep the sample short enough that repeated testing is practical, and avoid choosing an unusually easy clip just to produce a reassuring result.
COMPARE SAME AUDIO
Compare one variable at a time.
- Prepare two available models in EchoNote, subject to your device capacity.
- Use the same local audio file for each run.
- Note the elapsed processing time and whether the job completes reliably.
- Compare the names, numbers and uncertain passages with the reference.
- Estimate how much editing each result needs.
The listing describes model selection for a speed-versus-accuracy tradeoff. Do not translate that into “the largest option is always best.” The useful choice depends on the recording, available resources and whether a small improvement is worth the extra processing for your task.

RECORD RESULTS
Include review time in the comparison.
Imagine one model finishes in two minutes and needs eight minutes of correction. Another finishes in five minutes and needs three minutes of correction. The second has a shorter combined workflow in that example, despite slower processing.
Those are illustrative figures, not EchoNote benchmarks. Record your own times on your own phone and verify the text. Keep other conditions reasonably similar, and note interruptions or a failed run. One sample is a starting decision, not proof that the same ranking holds for every language or recording length.
PREPARE FOR TRAVEL
Keep a setup you have already tested.
After choosing a workable model, verify that it and the audio are available locally before depending on offline use. Avoid waiting until you have no connection to discover that the selected model still needs preparation.
EchoNote makes model choice part of its file-transcription workflow. Check the installed version for the models actually available rather than relying on an old size list. If a larger model cannot complete comfortably, a smaller tested option and a careful review may be more useful than repeatedly retrying a resource-heavy job.

No. Compare the output you can verify, the time needed and whether your phone can complete the job reliably.
Use the same representative audio, check against the original, and record both processing time and the editing needed afterward.
