MEANING FIRST
Readable text can still be incorrect.
Automatic transcription produces text that needs checking against the recording. A sentence may look perfectly natural while replacing a name, dropping a negative or assigning the wrong number. Tidying punctuation before checking those details can make an error more convincing.
Keep the original audio available and decide what kind of transcript you need. A verbatim record preserves the wording, including hesitations when relevant. Edited notes may remove repetition. Do not switch between those goals without labeling the result; readers need to know whether they are seeing spoken wording or your summary.
REVIEW ORDER
Use a consistent review order.
- Listen for meaning: compare each passage with the corresponding audio.
- Check names and terms: confirm spellings from an appropriate source when you can.
- Check numbers and negatives: small word changes can reverse the statement.
- Mark uncertainty: leave an unresolved passage visibly uncertain.
- Clean presentation: adjust punctuation and paragraph breaks after verifying the content.
For a long file, work in short sections and keep your place in the recording. Do not rely on memory of a conversation to settle a disputed phrase when the audio itself is available.

WORKED CHECK
Make the uncertainty visible in a simple example.
Imagine the transcript says “send fifteen copies,” but the audio could also be “send fifty copies.” Context might make one number seem more likely. That is still a guess. Replay the passage, listen around it and seek clarification if the distinction matters.
In your working copy, write a marker such as “[number unclear]” rather than silently choosing. If another listener helps, give them enough surrounding audio without exposing unrelated material. A useful transcript is honest about its evidence; an apparently perfect transcript with invented details is worse than an openly incomplete one.
ECHONOTE WORKFLOW
Use EchoNote to create the draft, then review it.
EchoNote can process a selected recording locally and make the result available to copy or share. Use that output as the starting draft. If you prefer to edit in a separate text editor, keep the original result and the reviewed version distinct.
Do not assume the app supplies verified speaker names, official certification or a guaranteed accuracy level. Your review method remains important even when a sample looks excellent. Once the text is checked to the standard your task needs, share only the relevant version through the destination you choose.

Replay it with context and seek clarification if appropriate. If it remains unresolved, mark it uncertain rather than inventing a likely word.
