PREPARE EARLY
Plan before the final packing session.
List the plants that need attention during your absence and the person who will check them. The right plan depends on the species, conditions and length of the trip. Avoid treating “I will be away for a week” as one watering rule for every pot.
Review the RHS holiday-care guidance for preparation options. Test any care arrangement before leaving if it changes how water reaches a plant. Do not introduce a new system at the door and assume it will behave as intended while nobody is watching.
HANDOFF TEMPLATE
Leave a handoff the sitter can use in the room.
- Plant and pot: a name, location and recognizable photo or label.
- Last confirmed care: what happened and when.
- Check: the plant-specific condition to inspect before acting.
- Action: the instructions you have established for that plant.
- If uncertain: how to contact you and what information to send.
Use one row or card per plant. “Water the plants” is not a handoff. Neither is a list of dates without a way to identify the pots. Ask the sitter to walk through one example with you before you leave.

AVOID DOUBLE CARE
Agree how completed care will be recorded.
One person should know who is responsible on each visit. Have the sitter mark the date and action on the handoff sheet or send you a simple message. If a second person helps, make the record available to both so they do not repeat the same treatment.
Do not assume a local app on your phone is a shared live dashboard. Mossby is presented here as an organizer for your preparation, not as a multi-user synchronization service or remote watering controller. A printed page, a message or screenshots you deliberately share may be the clearer handoff.
BEFORE AND AFTER
Use Mossby to prepare, then reconcile on return.
Review Mossby zones, due tasks and recent care while writing the sitter instructions. Its seven-day forecast can help you spot upcoming checks, but the forecast does not replace plant-specific inspection or cover every length of trip.
When you return, compare the sitter’s record with the plants before resuming the routine. Update only care you can confirm. If something was missed or uncertain, keep that distinction. This is more useful than marking every overdue reminder complete just to clear the list.
05 · QUICK ANSWERS
A Plant-Care Checklist Before Vacation, briefly.
No. It organizes plant records and reminders. Physical care still needs a suitable arrangement and someone to inspect when required.
This guide does not assume shared accounts or cloud synchronization. Provide the relevant instructions and records through a handoff you control.
